Msgt Art Lilley aka NC Zuk KIA in Afghanistan

Postby twdcmd » Tue Jun 19, 2007 11:08 am

As some of you may or may not know, a good friend of the wheeling community was killed in action in Afghanistan on the 14th of this month. Art Lilley died as a results of injuries from small arms fire while saving the life of one of his men.

The Staff and members of Zuwharrie.com as well as countless other individuals remember Art fondly as someone who never failed to lend a hand or a laugh whenever he could.

Art loved to ride in Uwharrie where we hold our Zuwharrie events twice a year every year. We would like to see a trail renamed in Art's honor. PLEASE let me know what we can do to make this happen.

Janet, My name is Jimmy and I have spoke with you from time to time on my visits to the Zuwharrie events as well as my camping outings at Arrowhead. The members of Zuwharrie as well as quite a few of other off-road clubs are very interested in petitioning The NFS to change a trails name to honor Art Lilley. He loved Uwharrie. Art is an American hero. I can't think of a better way to honor his life that he gave defending our freedom. Can you get me any information on who I need to contact to get the ball rolling. I know Deborah Walker is the Ranger in charge. Is she my best starting point? I appreciate anything that you can do to help me.

Yesterday I spoke to Deborah Walker on the phone. In our discussion she made me aware of a OHV campground that has a groundbreaking in August of this year and was open to being named in honor of Art. I have asked her to do just that and she has agreed. Deborah also mentioned that we mad to participate in the sign. I already have volunteers to do the work. I will just need to know whet those requirements are.

Janet, I am not sure if you had a hand in this but if you did I would personally like to thank you.

Zuwharrie is very excited to have a campground that has access to the OHV trails especially when it will be named for our hero MSGT Arthur Lilley.

Please let us know what Zuwharrie can do to aid in the construction or future development of this project.

My hat is off to the Janet Becker, Deborah Walker, and The NFS. The offroad community appreciates you. God bless you.

I look forward to camping there in 2008! 8)

This is a topic at Zuwharrie's BBS. I personally invite you to join in the conversation located there:
